We have a great opportunity for a Senior Boiler Operator to join our Service and Heat Team on a fixed‑term contract until September 2026.

Responsible for safe and efficient operation of a large industrial biomass heating system, steam‑generating plant and associated equipment at our Paisley site, including maintenance delivery, HSEQ, statutory compliance and fuel management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee planned maintenance, attendance, testing, and record keeping ensuring compliance with statutory and environmental regulations, Renewable Heat Incentive scheme and industry good practice governing LTHW, steam, feed water quality, biomass combustion and electrical generation, and high voltage equipment as required.
  • Supervise, mentor and provide direction for the Boiler Operator to achieve objectives, monitor progress against targets and support continual development. Manage shift patterns to ensure site presence 7 days a week and provision of standby on call reactive service.
  • Supervise sub‑contractors for ongoing operation and maintenance or capital works/upgrades as required.
  • Facilitate biomass fuel supply to the site, including monitoring stock levels and liaising with suppliers to ensure continuous supply of correct specification fuel, compliant with Renewable Heat Incentive, plant and emissions requirements.
  • Coordinate with boiler manufacturer to ensure ongoing maintenance and problem resolution.
  • Supervise all aspects of HSEQ on site, encourage strong HSEQ culture and adherence to HSEQ legislation, AMP Clean Energy Group, and client/site specific rules and policies. Ensure high standard of site housekeeping.
  • Escalate any serious issues or HSEQ concerns to the head of Service and Heat Supply.
  • Conduct regular HSEQ audits, site inductions and toolbox talks.
  • Supervise planned maintenance works and repairs carried out by sub‑contractors, including water quality management, and ensure these are carried out by competent persons to the required standards, with required risk assessments and permits in place.
  • Manage spares stock proactively to minimise plant downtime, report stock levels to Service and Heat Supply Manager, facilitate agreed actions as required, maintain stock records and provide stock counts to Finance team.
  • Ensure all equipment, machinery and tooling used on site is fit for purpose and has the appropriate testing and compliance regime in place.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed reports and record keeping of fuel supply, maintenance, testing, and HSEQ incidents, risk assessments and auditing via online HSEQ and service management systems.
  • Represent AMP in day‑to‑day relations with the client’s engineering and maintenance teams, maintaining excellent communication and working relationships, keeping the client appraised of any system performance issues and providing helpful feedback.
  • Represent AMP at client meetings.

Qualifications

  • BOAS qualification to supervisor level.
  • Technical qualification with experience in LTHW and steam systems including pumps, valves, hydraulics, controls and steam generating plant.
  • Experience supervising high‑value heat and steam generating plant and equipment, and operations and maintenance equipment of large industrial sites with continual heat demand.
  • Strong engineering background, mechanical and electrical experience.
  • Experience working with control systems such as DCS/BMS controls and CMMS systems.
  • Experience with biomass boilers and biomass fuel desirable.
  • Experience in supervision and sub‑contractor management.
  • Ability to manage multiple operational tasks and prioritise effectively.
  • Excellent customer service and ability to work with all stakeholders, including client and suppliers.
  • Skill in resolving problems, reviewing information to develop and evaluate options, and implementing proactive solutions.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Additional Information

  • Location: Paisley.
  • Salary: To be discussed at interview.
  • Hours: 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday, with 1-hour unpaid lunch break, plus overtime and on‑call on a rota.
  • Contract type: Fixed term until the end of September 2026.
