Based at Pirelli on their Carlisle site. The role offers a predominantly workshop and production floor‑based position, focused on the maintenance, fault‑finding, and servicing of high‑volume, automated plant within a state‑of‑the‑art manufacturing environment.

Suited to a Maintenance Electrician, Electrical Engineer, or Industrial Electrician, the position would appeal to someone who enjoys varied technical work, takes pride in high standards, and is confident working independently as well as part of a wider maintenance and engineering team. Experience within high-volume modern manufacturing, automated processes, or heavy industrial environments will be highly relevant.

The role:

The position centres on maintaining, servicing, and repairing electrical systems on PLC‑controlled machinery to ensure safe operation and maintain production and quality standards. The successful candidate will work closely with the Maintenance Leadership Team and other electrical and mechanical engineers to carry out preventative maintenance, fault diagnostics, and installation work. A high level of attention to detail is essential, particularly in maintaining electrical compliance, functionality, and overall equipment efficiency.

The successful applicant will also assist in training and mentoring apprentices, support IT‑related diagnostic activities, and contribute to continuous improvement in safety, quality, and departmental efficiency. While the role is primarily based at Pirelli’s Carlisle site, collaboration across teams and occasional flexibility may be required.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform repair and maintenance of electrical systems, equipment, and components.
  • Diagnose and fault‑find automated electrical systems using PLC diagnostic skills.
  • Troubleshoot Pirelli network systems at machine level with IT support.
  • Carry out regular preventative maintenance testing of electrical systems and components.
  • Assist other electrical and mechanical team members to complete maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure all electrical components in the area are functioning correctly.
  • Comply with all safety regulations and operational procedures.
  • Attend relevant training and development activities.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to apprentices.

About you:

  • Time‑served electrical engineer with relevant technical qualifications.
  • HNC-qualified or 3 years of industrial experience.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and sound technical knowledge of processes and machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical control drawings.
  • Experience with Siemens PLC control (Step7, TIA Portal) and Siemens Sinamics drives (S120, G120) desirable.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication systems, barcode scanning, and PLC‑PLC/database communication advantageous.
  • Good understanding of single and three‑phase systems and AC/DC motor fault diagnosis.
  • Self‑motivated, organised, resilient, and able to work on own initiative.
  • High‑level interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively under pressure.

What’s on offer:

  • 33 days holiday per year (inclusive of bank holidays).
  • Pension scheme with linked life insurance.
  • Service‑related payment and employee discount schemes.
  • Access to on‑site Occupational Health and Physiotherapist.
  • Employee assistance programme.
  • Discounted tyre vouchers, bike to work scheme, and car scheme (salary sacrifice).
