Overview
Electrical Site Based Engineer
Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced Static Engineer with a strong Electrical bias to lead our on-site delivery within a live hospital environment in Oxford. The successful candidate will be responsible for the planned and reactive maintenance of electrical building services systems, ensuring full compliance with healthcare standards and maintaining a safe, operational environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This is a site-based role (no mobile travel), supporting critical healthcare infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM): Carry out PPM tasks in accordance with contract schedules, HTM guidance, and SFG20 standards. Electrical maintenance including: LV distribution systems; Distribution boards and sub-main circuits; Lighting and emergency lighting systems; UPS systems and standby power systems; Generators and associated controls; Isolators, contactors, relays, and control gear; Small power and containment systems; Fire alarm interface awareness; Basic BMS operation and interrogation.
- Associated building services support: Electrical fault finding on mechanical plant and HVAC controls; Motors, pumps, AHUs, FCUs, and control panels; Ensure all statutory compliance checks are completed and recorded correctly.
- Reactive Maintenance: Respond promptly to electrical breakdowns and faults across site; Diagnose and repair electrical faults efficiently with minimal disruption; Prioritise works in line with hospital criticality levels; Support critical systems including emergency lighting, essential power, and clinical infrastructure; Carry out safe isolation and testing procedures where required.
- Subcontractor Management: Coordinate specialist subcontractors (e.g. fire alarm, BMS, generator, UPS, and electrical specialists); Escort contractors where required; Ensure subcontractors comply with site-specific rules, Permit to Work systems, RAMS, infection control procedures; Review and approve RAMS prior to works commencing; Monitor quality and workmanship standards; Escalate performance or compliance issues to the Contract Manager.
- Compliance & Documentation: Ensure compliance with HTM guidance relevant to electrical systems, BS 7671 Wiring Regulations, Electricity at Work Regulations, Health & Safety at Work Act; Maintain accurate records using CAFM systems; Assist in audits and compliance inspections; Support EICR remedial works and electrical compliance activities.
- Safety & Risk Management: Adhere strictly to Permit to Work systems; Follow safe isolation and lock-off procedures; Work safely in clinical and non-clinical areas; Understand and follow infection control procedures; Participate in toolbox talks and safety briefings.
- Client & Site Interaction: Liaise with hospital estates team and clinical staff; Provide technical support and advice on electrical systems and infrastructure; Represent the company professionally at all times.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
- Proven experience in electrical building services maintenance
- Strong fault-finding ability on electrical systems
- Experience working in critical environments (hospital, healthcare, data centre, or similar)
- Knowledge of emergency lighting and essential power systems
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Test & Inspection qualification (2391 or equivalent)
- Experience with BMS systems
- Knowledge of HTM guidance
- AP/LV or HV awareness
- Experience supporting mechanical plant controls

- Remuneration Package: £45-47k starting salary with £1.5k-£2k increase following successful 6-month probation period
- £145.00 per week standard on-call allowance
