CNC Machinist
Burton Upon Trent — £23.18 an hour umbrella. Monday – Thursday 7am – 4pm. Friday 7am – 1pm. Overtime available. Contract to Permanent.
Situation
As a skilled CNC Machinist to join their Gears Department. This is a fantastic opportunity for a mechanically minded individual with machining experience to join a well‑established engineering team supporting the rail sector.
Your New Opportunity
As a CNC Machinist, you will play a key role in producing high‑quality machined components for rail applications. You will be responsible for operating CNC and manual machinery, inspecting components, and ensuring all work meets strict quality and safety standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Centre lathe turning with milling experience
- Using a wide range of measuring equipment to inspect components
- Writing and interpreting instructions and procedures to assemble products accurately
- Obtaining relevant technical information from appropriate sources
- Operating and controlling machines and machining processes
- Performing inspections on equipment, structures, materials, and finished products
- Analysing information to identify the best solutions to machining challenges
- Maintaining clear and honest communication with colleagues and supervisors
- Ensuring a safe working environment at all times
- Applying new knowledge and skills to continuously improve performance
- Mentoring trainees or apprentices when required
- Supporting 5S activities and maintaining a clean, organised workspace
- May also be required to undertake additional duties within your skillset to support wider business needs
The Candidate
Minimum 1 year of experience in the rail or automotive industry
Mechanically minded with strong practical skills
Good problem‑solving ability
Strong understanding of mathematics
Self‑motivated and able to work independently
Ability to work in a physically demanding, fast‑paced environment
Manual handling capability
Essential
- Experience mentoring apprentices or trainees
- Previous experience in a CNC machining environment within a safety‑critical industry
- Familiarity with 5S or continuous improvement practices
