Highways Maintenance Operative

Requisition ID: 11103 – LOCATION: Dundee – ROLE: Full time Permanent.

Hours: 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8am to 4:30pm (with 3:30pm finish on Friday), with occasional nightshift. Competitive salary and overtime are offered.

We work on the Trunk Road network in partnership with Transport Scotland within the NMC NE Account, delivered by Amey. Work includes maintenance, road safety, bridges and structures, and discrete improvement schemes, while aligning with Scottish Government climate change and sustainability targets. The role also includes winter and incident response services, improved communications, and new technologies for better management of assets and maintenance activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertaking various highway maintenance tasks, including carriageway and footway patching, kerbing, iron‑work replacement, and drainage maintenance.
  • Operating and maintaining vehicles, including HGVs and small plant machinery, ensuring all checks and routine maintenance are completed.
  • Participating in winter and summer standby duties, including emergency call‑outs.
  • Ensuring the safety of yourself and the team – safety is paramount.
  • Keeping accurate records and completing all necessary paperwork, maintaining communication and liaising with Amey employees, sub‑contractors, emergency services, police, clients and customers.

Qualifications

  • Experience in roads and/or street works.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence.
  • Demonstrate awareness of Health and Safety regulations and always ensure compliance.
  • Self‑motivated, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Previous winter maintenance experience in a similar role is desirable.
  • It would be preferable to hold an HGV licence – not essential.
