Summary

Beyond Accounting are looking for an organized, eager learner to build a career in accountancy. The ideal candidate will have good communication skills, attention to detail, and a positive attitude towards working with clients and financial systems.

Salary

£15,600 for the first year, potentially increasing depending on experience.

Hours

During probation (3 months): 9.00 am – 5.00 pm in office. After probation: flexible working. 37 hours 30 minutes per week.

What You’ll Do

  • Support bookkeeping tasks using Xero and Apron, maintain accurate records, and communicate with clients to gather information and keep accounts organised.
  • Progress to preparing VAT returns, CIS returns, company accounts, and self‑assessment tax returns, with full training and support provided throughout the apprenticeship.

Training

Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training and study to gain professional knowledge and skills.

Training Schedule

  • Weekly face‑to‑face or online‑live teaching and self‑study sessions for the AAT Level 2 and Accounts Assistant Apprenticeship.
  • Training and mentoring in the workplace to embed the duties, knowledge, skills and behaviour required by the Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard.

What You’ll Learn

  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data, identify transaction issues such as reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using audience‑tailored language and appropriate media methods.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, including backing up data.

Essential Qualifications

  • GCSE in English and Maths (Grade 5 or above).

Other Requirements

  • Work from the office at Tower House, 2c Askham Fields Ln, York YO23 3NU.
  • Travel to premises for a 9.00 am start.
  • After probation, working from home is permitted.
  • Apprentices are paid for normal working hours and off‑the‑job training hours (one day per week).
