Summary

MVG (Microwave Vision Group) are looking to hire an Assistant Accountant Apprentice to join their team based in Haydock, Merseyside. This is a fantastic opportunity to get your foot in the door at a company who have a history of supporting apprentices through their qualifications.

Wage

£15,600 – £18,000 per year (depending on the grade and past experience).

Hours

Monday to Friday, 08:45 – 16:45 (30‑minute lunch break). 37 hours 30 minutes per week.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands‑on experience.

What you’ll do at work

  • Receive, verify and post supplier invoices into the accounting system.
  • Match invoices to purchase orders and ensure accurate cost allocation.
  • Track invoice approval processes and assist in payment preparations.
  • Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies.
  • Assist in corporate card postings.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date and accurate supplier account records.
  • Handle supplier queries and follow up on outstanding issues.
  • Support month‑end closing activities (accruals, cut‑offs, reconciliations).
  • Organise and archive accounting documents.
  • Participate in continuous improvement of AP processes and internal controls (e.g., invoicing tool implementation).

What you’ll learn

  • Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
  • Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
  • Apply double-entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements, and report financial information.
  • Assist with the production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
  • Reconcile financial data, including preparation and review of reconciliations.
  • Investigate, resolve or escalated transactional queries and errors within the remit as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial information so that non-financial stakeholders can interpret and understand.
  • Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
  • Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, backing up data securely.
  • Communicate using varying approaches and media, appreciating risks and benefits of social media and other digital applications.
