Your next role

As a Finance Assistant in the Adult Social Care Finance Team, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks, supporting Swindon Borough Council’s Adult Social Care department.

You will use the Council’s internal financial systems to ensure prompt and accurate payments are made, verify invoices for payment, and ensure invoices for care providers are paid for within the Council’s payment terms. You will reconcile payments, resolve queries within agreed timescales, and liaise with the wider Adult Social Care Team, Swindon Borough Council partners and providers to resolve queries and ensure credit notes are received to facilitate accurate and timely payments.

You will also raise invoices for joint funded packages and where required, client contributions. You will authorise Social Care packages for system set up, apply annual uplifts and Financial Year End accruals, facilitate manual payments as required and provide support to other functions of the ASC Finance Team such as Direct Payments when required.

The successful applicant will be able to work to tight deadlines and under conflicting pressures, communicating effectively through all channels, such as email, telephone, letter and virtual communications such as Teams. You must be motivated and able to work on your initiative, identifying discrepancies and errors, and seeking guidance as appropriate from senior staff and team members.

You should be educated to GCSE level (grade A‑C) or equivalent, have demonstrable administrative experience including the use of Financial IT systems, and be computer literate with MS Excel and MS Word, enabling you to communicate confidently with colleagues, customers and clients.

You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act for the effective performance of a customer‑facing role).
