Job Summary
The Broadway Surgery is seeking a highly efficient and organised Receptionist to join our team following a long‑standing employee transition. The role requires excellent computer skills, strong oral and written communication, and the ability to navigate a variety of patient scenarios with flexibility and professionalism.
Responsibilities
- Open and lock practice premises, ensuring security protocols are observed.
- Maintain and monitor the practice appointment system, processing face‑to‑face and telephone requests for appointments and consultations.
- Act as a care navigator: sign‑post patients to the appropriate clinician or service and identify when a GP, nurse or administrative response is required.
- Action emails from doctors, nurses and other team members, and manage clinical system tasks.
- Take messages and pass information to relevant parties promptly.
- Monitor patient flow through the waiting room and manage prescription requests in line with practice guidelines.
- Perform computer data entry, allocation and collation in accordance with practice procedures.
- Initiate contact and respond to requests from patients, team members and external agencies, using the AccuRX texting system to send links and messages.
- Engage patients proactively to book health checks such as smear tests and baby immunisations.
- Handle sample storage and disposal appropriately.
- Process non‑NHS payment and record receipts.
- Maintain a clear and orderly reception and waiting area.
- Work flexible hours, including additional hours when required to cover staff shortages.
Professional Requirements
- Experience dealing with the general public.
- Effective communication skills.
- Competent IT skills.
- Pass a DBS check and be fully vaccinated according to NHS guidelines.
- Previous NHS experience is essential; NHS experience in a GP practice is desirable.
- Current UK professional registration.
- Fluency in computer and data handling systems.
Legal and Registration Requirements
Applicants must pass a Disclosure and Barring Service check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, and hold current UK professional registration.
Contract and Salary
£13,900 a year, permanent part‑time contract. The first 3 months are probationary, following which the contract may be renewed annually if both parties are satisfied.
