Senior Social Worker – Duty & Assessment Team

Location: Wombwell Police Station, Barnsley

Contract: 3‑Month temporary, full‑time; hybrid working.

Hours: £35 per hour, Umbrella.

Responsibilities

• Undertake high‑quality child and family assessments.
• Manage duty allocations on a rota basis (1 week on duty, 3 weeks off).
• Develop effective intervention plans where required.
• Work within a short‑term service focused on timely decision‑making and risk management.
• Liaise with Early Help services, long‑term teams, and partner agencies.
• Ensure children and families receive the right support at the right time.

Qualifications

• Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration.
• Significant experience within Children’s Services, ideally Assessment/Duty teams.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong assessment, safeguarding, and decision‑making skills.
• Passionate about improving outcomes and lived experiences for children and families.
• Confident working within performance frameworks and statutory timescales.

Working Pattern
