About the RoleMilk Education are working in partnership with a specialist autism provision to recruit an Autism Learning Support Assistant. This is a rewarding opportunity to support a male student with autism in a dedicated setting designed to meet his individual needs. The student has a diagnosis of Autism and ADHD and displays challenging behaviours.

You will play a key role in providing tailored support, helping the student engage with learning, build confidence, and develop essential life skills within a structured, nurturing, and highly supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support for a pupil with autism
  • Support the delivery of personalised learning and behaviour plans
  • Encourage positive communication, interaction, and emotional regulation
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and external professionals
  • Create a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment
  • Support the pupil with personal care needs where required, maintaining dignity and respect at all times
  • Assist with activities such as swimming sessions, including supporting pupils in changing rooms and in the pool
  • Track and report on pupil progress

The Ideal Candidate

  • Has experience working with children or young people with autism or additional needs
  • Is comfortable supporting with personal care
  • Is happy to participate in swimming sessions and water-based activities
  • Demonstrates patience, empathy, and resilience
  • Has strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Is adaptable and proactive in supporting a range of needs
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

Important InformationDue to the intimate nature of personal care duties and the requirement to support pupils in male changing facilities during swimming sessions, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the postholder to be male, in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or SEND
  • Knowledge of strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or sensory approaches
  • Previous experience in a specialist or autism provision setting
