We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 3 Support Worker to participate in the continued development of the Emergency Laparotomy and Enhanced Recovery Team within NHS Tayside. This is based upon the Emergency Laparotomy Audit (ELLSA) and the Enhanced Recovery After Colorectal Surgery (ERAS) project. This is a permanent position with one post available.
Are you creative and motivated?
We are looking to appoint a Band 3 Support Worker to be an integral member of the team which is looking to transform the culture of post-operative care in unscheduled surgery and scheduled Colorectal surgery at Ninewells. We are looking for support workers who will provide and support motivational goals, establish patient and carer engagement through additional goal setting while assisting with rehabilitation in collaboration with AHP colleagues whilst improving patients’ length of stay and experience in hospital.
This role will include pre-operative support and daily involvement at Theatre Huddles and MDT rounds to input real-time information about all participating patients of this group. Rehabilitation is a key part of this role, and you will be expected to engage daily with patients and their carers to help achieve goal setting targets whilst encouraging and supporting their mobility, which will include post-operative strengthening and movement. You will do this using the appropriate Emergency Laparotomy and ERAS resources.
Pre- and post-operative welfare is a key concept, with the development of the knowledge and skills to offer early access to resources being an essential part of this role. You will also work with all members of the MDT to support discharge planning, identifying early barriers to avoid prolonged hospital admissions.
In collaboration with the Emergency Laparotomy and ERAS Specialist Nurse, you will participate in data collection and entry into the Emergency Laparotomy and Laparoscopic Scottish Audit (ELLSA) database and the ERAS database following national standards and will support the development and implementation of improvement projects and audits for this patient group.
This role is to ensure your infectious enthusiasm will inspire our patients to engage with meaningful, patient-centred activities whilst in hospital, continuing to motivate and inspire them throughout their rehabilitation and recovery – even on discharge from hospital.
