Recovery Coordinator – Reconnect to Health (Low Newton)

Location: HMP Low Newton, Finchale Avenue, DH1 5YA

Working Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday 08:00‑16:00

Contract: Permanent

Salary: £25,877.80 – £34,240 (full earning potential; starting salary depends on experience and progression within the band)

About the Role

Provide collaborative recovery planning and case management for substance misusers (drug and alcohol) and their families across all stages of their recovery journey, from assessment and engagement to sustained recovery. Support individuals both in custody and through to release in partnership with prisons, community treatment services and multi‑disciplinary teams.

What You’ll Do

  • Deliver specialist, tailored support to enable service users to make positive changes.
  • Complete comprehensive assessments for individuals who need support from the Drug and Alcohol Recovery Team.
  • Effectively manage a caseload of service users, reviewing and updating ongoing processes such as risk assessments and personalised recovery plans.
  • Work closely within the multi‑disciplinary team and externally, attending reviews to support individuals in their recovery journey.
  • Facilitate psychosocial interventions, including group work and one‑to‑one formats.
  • Use an online case management system efficiently.
  • Promote visible recovery across the service and ensure peer support opportunities are relevant and accessible for all service users.
  • Adhere to safeguarding processes, identifying and preventing potential harm to service users and others, following local and organisational guidelines.

To Succeed in This Role

  • Desire to support individuals with substance misuse issues through their recovery journey.
  • Knowledge of harm reduction approaches related to substance misuse.
  • Understanding and ability to implement brief interventions (MI, PSIs, CBT, ITEP).
  • Experience with models of service delivery and recovery planning.
  • Familiarity with best practice frameworks such as NICE, DOH, NTA, NMC, Care Quality Commission and Caldicott Standards.
  • Experience delivering one‑to‑one and group therapeutic interventions.
  • Excellent partnership and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and resilience while supporting individuals intensively, sometimes in stressful situations.
