Job Description:

You will work closely with students across KS3, supporting young people with autism and associated needs who are typically working at KS2/KS3 levels. You’ll provide support in class, in small groups and through 1:1 learning, helping students access education in a way that works for them. Working alongside teachers, therapists and specialist colleagues, you’ll support pupils academically, socially and emotionally – helping them develop confidence, communication skills and independence for life beyond school. No two days are the same at Pegasus, and that’s what makes this role so rewarding.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting students within lessons, small groups and individual interventions
  • Helping pupils engage positively with learning and school life
  • Building trusted, consistent relationships with young people
  • Using relational approaches to support behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Encouraging independence, confidence and social development
  • Working collaboratively with teachers and wider professionals to meet individual needs
  • Supporting pupils throughout the school day, including transitions and enrichment activities
  • Promoting inclusion, wellbeing and positive outcomes for every child
  • Supporting with intimate care where required

Qualifications (Required)

  • We’re seeking someone who is patient, adaptable and genuinely passionate about supporting children and young people with SEND.
  • Experience supporting children or young people with autism and additional needs
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills
  • A calm, nurturing and positive approach
  • Good behaviour management skills with a relational focus
  • An understanding of inclusive and personalised learning approaches
  • Good organisation and time‑management skills
  • GCSEs (or equivalent Level 2 qualifications) including English and Maths

Desirable Criteria

  • A Level 3 or SEND‑related qualification
  • Experience supporting pupils working below age‑related expectations
  • Experience working with vulnerable or at‑risk children
  • Experience supporting intimate care
  • Knowledge of partnership or community working

Salary and Hours

  • Full time (KS3) salary: £25,583–£27,254 per annum
  • Permanent position with generous pension and sick pay scheme
  • 3 days per week (part‑time) salary: £13,537–£14,422 per annum (term time only) – 8:30‑16:30, Monday to Wednesday
  • 4 days per week (part‑time) salary: £18,050–£19,229 per annum (term time only) – 8:30‑16:30, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday; 8:30‑16:00, Friday
