What you will do

  • Consider future approval of Foster Carers and present cases to the Fostering Panel, ensuring fostering standards meet the highest quality.

  • Conduct timely and thorough Foster Carer Reviews in line with guidance, chairing reviews after complaints or child protection enquiries when necessary.

  • Collaborate with the team to provide an enhanced quality service and support foster carers effectively.

  • Lead reviews of foster carers’ households, ensuring alignment with care plans for young people based on the Five Outcomes.

  • Ensure that foster carers’ reviews are child-centred, involving consultations with children and young people, shared carers, and social workers.

  • Evaluate the progress and placements of the previous year and set a Personal Development Plan for each foster carer.

  • Guarantee each fostering household has a Safer Caring Agreement tailored to the children and young people in their care.

  • Work alongside Independent Reviewing Officers where appropriate to strengthen plans and provide support.

Knowledge, skills, and experience

  • Possession of a CQSW, Diploma in Social Work, Degree in Social Work, or recognised equivalent, and registration with Social Work England.

  • At least three years of post‑qualifying experience in Children and Family Services, with specific experience or training in Family Placements.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Children Act 1989 and Fostering Minimum Standards and Regulations 2002.

  • Strong ability to facilitate effective participation in meetings, ensuring the voices of foster carers and children are heard.

  • Proficiency in time management, IT skills in CHARMS, and the ability to communicate effectively with children and adults.
