An exciting opportunity for a part‑time Technology Support Worker (Band 4) to join the specialised Compass Team in the Assistive & Rehabilitation Technology Service at the Royal Hospital for Neuro‑disability (RHN).
Compass is a multi‑disciplinary service focused on providing electronic assistive and rehabilitation technology solutions to profoundly disabled individuals both within the RHN and in the community. The role of the Technology Support Worker is to provide support to the Compass team and to the users of our assistive technology within the RHN.
The role of the Technology Support Worker (Clinical) is to provide clinical support in the use of technology to clients with complex disabilities under the supervision of the Compass clinicians and clinical technologists.
Main Objectives of the role
- To support the Compass Team in delivering an efficient and effective assistive technology service both within RHN and externally, including the NHS Specialised AAC Service/s.
- Demonstrate an awareness of RHN’s objectives and contribute to achieving them appropriately.
Main duties of the job
- Contribute with the Compass team in assessment and implementation sessions in the community, advising on possible solutions and appropriate equipment.
- Independently engage with MDT professionals and ward staff to carry out implementation and trial sessions internally.
- Ensure patient input is documented appropriately in line with Compass and RHN procedures.
- Carry out, oversee and be responsible for all mounting procedures, including the supervision of a Band 5 Technician and all documentation and risk assessment associated with this.
- Maintain and update specialist knowledge and skills in this area, including liaising with mounting equipment suppliers and wheelchair manufacturers.
- Design and manufacture custom mounting equipment where this is clinically indicated in line with MHRA guidance and create required safety guidelines and maintenance documentation, in liaison with Clinical Lead.
- Independently manage own caseload of clients requiring equipment servicing and maintenance.
- Carry out all the tasks required for installation and maintenance of equipment, including electrical safety testing, mechanical safety testing, visual and functional testing and fault‑finding and resolution.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- A proficient knowledge of Windows operating system.
- A proficient knowledge of the Apple iOS.
- An advanced understanding of the needs of disabled individuals and how electronic assistive technology can enable them to live more independently.
- A proficient knowledge of electronic assistive technology, including software and the ability to customise this to a client’s needs.
- Ability to document work carried out legibly and in English to a minimum Grade C level GCSE.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Excellent organisation and time‑management skills.
- A valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for visits.
- A competent ability to use Microsoft products such as Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint.
- Previous experience of delivering training and handover to people with complex disabilities and their support network.
- Previous experience of delivering remote support.
