Lab Tech Assistant – Histology/Cytology – Maryview Medical Center

Job Summary

The Lab Histology/Cytology Assistant position is an entry level position that performs routine functions to aid in the preparation of histopathology and/or cytology samples. The assistant works under general supervision of trained Histology techs and/or Cytology techs.

Essential Job Functions

  • Performs multiple computer functions using the laboratory information system.
  • Performs secretarial and clerical duties (e.g., answering phones, assisting clients and patients, etc.)
  • Assists pathology, histology, and/or cytology staff.
  • Performs special procedures.
  • Prepares specimens, slides, blocks, reports, patient information, and other pertinent materials for mailing to referral sites or pickup by patients, family members, or physicians’ office personnel.
  • May perform specimen collection.

Licensing/Certification

  • None

Education

  • High School/GED (required)

Work Experience

  • Lab experience (preferred)
  • Lab Information Systems experience (preferred)

Training

  • Science courses (Chemistry, Biology, etc.) – CE
