About the Role
An established care provider is seeking qualified British Sign Language (BSL) Support Workers to join a specialist Independent Living Service in Newcastle upon Tyne. This is an excellent opportunity to support young adults with additional needs as they transition into independent living within a supported residential environment.
The service supports two young men living in a shared home close to Newcastle city centre, with good access to local amenities, transport links, parks and community facilities.
Successful candidates will support individuals to develop independence, build social connections, access community activities and achieve personal goals. Duties will include supporting with daily living tasks, personal care, attending appointments and promoting meaningful participation in the local community.
One individual experiences nocturnal seizures and may occasionally display behaviours that challenge, including self-injurious behaviours. The second individual requires support with dysphagia and follows an IDDSI Level 6 soft and bite‑sized diet. Full mandatory and specialist training will be provided.
Requirements
- Level 1 British Sign Language (BSL) qualification or above is essential
- Previous experience supporting autistic individuals and/or people with complex needs is desirable
- Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support approaches is advantageous
- A caring, patient and person‑centred approach
- Ability to work flexibly as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Right to work in the UK is required – sponsorship is not available for this role
