Behaviour Support Assistant
About the Role
We are looking for a dependable, proactive and resilient individual to join our team as a Teaching Assistant in a Special Educational Needs (SEN) school. This is a practical, active role suited to someone who is confident, steady under pressure, and ready to get stuck in to support young people in a meaningful way.
You will work closely with students with a range of additional needs, supporting them throughout the school day both in and out of the classroom. The role calls for patience, consistency, and a calm, firm approach.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting students with learning, behaviour, and day-to-day routines
- Assisting the class teacher with lessons and structured activities
- Working one-to-one or with small groups to reinforce learning
- Managing challenging behaviour with confidence and consistency
- Supporting students during break times, transitions, and off-site activities
- Assisting with personal care, including toileting and hygiene needs
Who We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will:
- Be reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team
- Have a calm, confident, and approachable manner
- Be physically active and comfortable in a hands-on role
- Be willing to support students with personal care needs
- Communicate clearly and build strong, respectful relationships
- Be adaptable, practical, and ready to take initiative
- Experience working with children or young people is helpful, but not essential
