SEN Support Assistant – Darlington (& Surrounding Areas)
Milk Education is more than a supply partner — we’re a community for educators. We’re currently recruiting for an SEN Support Assistant to work across secondary schools in Darlington, including Northallerton and Richardmond and surrounding areas, starting immediately on a term‑time basis.
We work in partnership with a range of welcoming and inclusive secondary schools across Darlington who are committed to supporting pupils with additional learning needs. These settings focus on creating safe, nurturing environments where every child is given the support they need to succeed academically, socially and emotionally.
This role offers the opportunity to work flexibly across a variety of school settings, supporting pupils with SEND and making a real impact on their learning journey. It’s ideal for someone looking to build experience across multiple schools or secure a long‑term placement.
SEN Support Assistant Responsibilities
- Supporting pupils with SEND on a 1:1 and small group basis
- Working closely with class teachers to adapt learning activities and resources
- Supporting children with autism, ADHD, speech and language, and additional learning needs
- Encouraging engagement, confidence, and positive behaviour
- Helping to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
- Delivering targeted intervention support in literacy, numeracy, and phonics
- Building positive relationships with pupils and staff
- Monitoring and reporting on pupil progress, behaviour, and wellbeing
- Following safeguarding procedures and school policies at all times

SEN Support Assistant Requirements
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEND
- Calm, patient, and consistent approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Flexible and resilient attitude
- Passion for supporting children’s development
- Understanding of safeguarding in education
