We are looking for a committed Pupil Support Assistant (2) who is passionate about improving life chances for all, so that children and young people can achieve their full potential. As a Pupil Support Assistant (2), you will work under the direction and supervision of a class teacher or senior member of staff to assist by supporting children and young people who have been identified as requiring additional support.
Responsibilities
- Support pupils/children individually or in class or in small groups in identified areas of learning and personal development.
- Contribute information to update planning and review process for individual pupils/children.
- Supervise pupil/child self‑administration of medication. Offer a high level of personal care which will enable the pupil/child to function to their full potential (e.g., toileting, administering medication in line with agreed training procedures and encouraging self‑help and independence).
- Carry out support programmes designed by visiting specialists (e.g., speech and language programmes, physiotherapy and/or occupational therapy programmes).
- Support pupil/child mobility (as defined by moving and handling training) on an emergency/short‑term basis and for low‑level needs (e.g., to support toileting or short‑term injury such as a broken leg).

Qualifications
- Good levels of interpersonal skills and abilities which enable you to work as a member of a team to ensure positive outcomes for all children and young people.
- Experience of supporting young people with additional support needs.
- You must have the ability to register with SSSC within 6 months of taking up employment in this role (Early Learning Centres/Primary and Special schools only) and must complete the required Post Registration Training and Learning (PRTL) over the registration period (2 National 5’s, or 2 Standard Grades General, or 2 O Grades or equivalent – SCQF Level 4 or above).
- For Early Learning Centres/Primary and Special schools only – NC in Early Education and Childcare at SCQF Level 6 or SVQ Social Services (Children and Young People) at SCQF Level 6 or Professional Development Award in Education Support Assistance at SCQF Level 6 or equivalent, or a commitment to achieve in the first period of registration as required by the Employer.
- Good IT skills.
- Before confirming your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.
