Key Responsibilities
- Support individuals to develop independent living skills (e.g. cooking, budgeting, personal care, travel training)
- Promote choice, control, and decision‑making in all aspects of daily life
- Provide emotional support and encouragement to maintain positive mental health and wellbeing
- Support individuals to access the community, education, employment, and social opportunities
- Assist with personal care where required, in a respectful and dignified manner
- Support with medication in line with training and policies
- Follow and implement person‑centred support plans and risk assessments
- Use positive behaviour support (PBS) approaches where needed
- Build trusting, professional relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries
- Monitor and report changes in behaviour, mood, or wellbeing
- Maintain accurate, timely, and clear records
- Work collaboratively with families, healthcare professionals, and other agencies
- Safeguard individuals and report any concerns in line with procedures
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- A genuine passion for supporting people with learning disabilities and/or mental health needs
- Ability to promote independence rather than create reliance
- Good communication and listening skills
- Calm, patient, and empathetic approach
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Desirable:
- Experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities and/or mental health conditions
- Understanding of positive behaviour support (PBS)
- Knowledge of safeguarding and person‑centred care
- Relevant qualification in Health & Social Care (Level 2 or 3)
