Key Responsibilities

  • Support individuals to develop independent living skills (e.g. cooking, budgeting, personal care, travel training)
  • Promote choice, control, and decision‑making in all aspects of daily life
  • Provide emotional support and encouragement to maintain positive mental health and wellbeing
  • Support individuals to access the community, education, employment, and social opportunities
  • Assist with personal care where required, in a respectful and dignified manner
  • Support with medication in line with training and policies
  • Follow and implement person‑centred support plans and risk assessments
  • Use positive behaviour support (PBS) approaches where needed
  • Build trusting, professional relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries
  • Monitor and report changes in behaviour, mood, or wellbeing
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and clear records
  • Work collaboratively with families, healthcare professionals, and other agencies
  • Safeguard individuals and report any concerns in line with procedures

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • A genuine passion for supporting people with learning disabilities and/or mental health needs
  • Ability to promote independence rather than create reliance
  • Good communication and listening skills
  • Calm, patient, and empathetic approach
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Desirable:

  • Experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities and/or mental health conditions
  • Understanding of positive behaviour support (PBS)
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and person‑centred care
  • Relevant qualification in Health & Social Care (Level 2 or 3)
