Job Description:

A co-educational private day and boarding school in the village of Kimbolton, Cambridgeshire caters to approximately 1200 students and teachers daily. The school offers a core feeding of breakfast, lunch and dinner, with additional hospitality throughout the year. The location is split between the senior school and prep school. The kitchen operates seven days a week, with a 5‑day work pattern drawn from a 7‑day period.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare food for service, following good hygiene and safety practices and to the standard specified.
  • Ensure the kitchen is left clean and tidy to the required standard of the Chef Manager or to the hygiene standards set by the company/client.
  • Clear, clean and store away any food, beverage or equipment required for special functions.
  • Restock and replenish stocks and consumables during service periods, to achieve optimum customer service delivery.
  • Operate cleaning and dishwashing equipment. Properly clean and store equipment, services, preparation and storage areas.
  • Complete all necessary cleaning/hygiene duties.
  • Interact and acknowledge all customers and client staff.
  • Attend all staff meetings as required.
  • Ensure that all policies and procedural requirements of both legislation and the company are adhered to, promoting a professional and flexible approach at all times.
  • Ensure the correct uniform is worn neatly and cleanly at all times.
  • Ensure that food temperatures are checked and recorded in the service and associated areas.
  • Carry out all reasonable requests of the management.
  • Be conscientious with regard to health and safety and report any hazards to the manager.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Previous experience of working within a busy kitchen environment (preferred).
  • Experience serving customers within a catering establishment (preferred).
  • Familiarity with fresh food preparation – salads, sandwiches, etc.
  • Team working abilities, listening skills, initiative, impeccable personal presentation and hygiene.
  • Food hygiene certificate (preferred).
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible as necessary; reliable, honest, and customer‑focused.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and accept some responsibility.
  • Ability to manage moderately heavy lifting, carrying and pushing.

Knowledge & Competencies

  • Reasonable understanding and use of spoken English.
  • Reasonable understanding of written English, including reading skills.
  • Similar experience in a customer and/or food preparation environment is preferred.
