The Calow and Brimington Practice, Chesterfield

Calow and Brimington Practice is a two site practice with a patient list of 7,900. Our surgeries are located at Brimington and Calow each being approximately 2.5 miles outside Chesterfield.

We are looking to recruit a part time Healthcare Assistant. Salary dependent on experience.

Experience of working in Primary Care, together with a knowledge of the SystmOne clinical system is desirable but not essential.

Main duties of the job

Therole of a Healthcare Assistant at Calow and Brimington Practice includes phlebotomy,annual checks, CVD health checks, Pre diabetic checks, B12, BP monitoring including 24 hour ABPM monitoring, ECGs, fluinjections, weight management amongst other things.

Main Purpose:

Basic health care tasks under the supervision of thePractice Nurses and GPs as detailed below (after suitable training wherenecessary)

Provide a courteous, high standard of service topatients

Ensure a tidy work and patient environment

Follow procedures and protocols as defined from timeto time, especially Health and Safety, Clinical and Administrative asapplicable

Provide cover for absent colleagues and assistcolleagues with work flows

Duties and Responsibilities:

Well personchecks

Height & Weight

Blood pressure

Urine analysis

Basic records

Cleaning andsterilisation of instruments as applicable

Stock controlof disposable equipment

Assist withminor surgery

Application ofbasic dressings

Monitoring,ordering and maintaining of vaccines in fridges

Monitoring andrecording of fridge temperatures

General stockcontrol in consulting rooms and ordering of replacement supplies

ECGs

SmokingCessation stop smoking advice

MetabolicSyndrome advice sessions

Assisting withclinics as directed

Ensuring allwork is documented accurately in patient records

Maintaininghealth promotion literature and materials

Recording ofadverse incidents and significant events

Any otherclinical duties that maybe reasonably expected from time to time and whichare consistent with the responsibilities of the post following suitabletraining and supervision

General:

Ensure patient records are kept confidential and maintainedin accordance with Practice protocols, procedures and the Data Protection Act

Compliance with all protocols and procedures as maybe in place from time to time, including Health and Safety, Clinical,Administrative, Dispensing and any general requirements specified by thePartners or Practice Manager

Undertaking relevant training and ensuringqualifications are kept up to date

Any other duties that may be reasonably expectedfrom time to time and which are consistent with the responsibilities of thepost

Clinical supervision and governance will be performed by theGPs, Practice Nurses and District Nurses in various degrees, with ultimatesupervision and responsibility by the Partners.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • A demonstrable commitment to professional development
  • Good standard of English &Maths
  • Qualifications in a Healthcare related subject/HCA qualification
  • NVQ2/3 in Health Care

Experience

  • Health Care Assistant experience
  • Experience of working with Patients
  • Primary Care Experience
  • Experience in Spirometry, ECGs, Flu vaccinations
  • Competent in simple wound care

Knowledge and skills

  • Competent in basic HCA duties
  • Demonstrate understanding of requirements of General Practice.
  • Evidence of ongoing PDP
  • Awareness of own accountability
  • To have a clear understanding of the importance of confidentiality
  • Read coding experience
  • Valid Driving Licence
  • Health & Social Care Training,
  • CPR/Defib,
  • Safeguarding, I
  • Infection Control
  • Clinical Skills:- wound management/tissue viability,
  • SystmOne clinical system
