We are currently recruiting for a Science Technician to join a well‑established further education provider in Northampton. This is a full‑time opportunity with the preference for a permanent appointment, although long‑term temp‑to‑perm arrangements will also be considered for the right candidate.
About the Role
As a Science Technician, you will play a key role in supporting the Science department, ensuring practical lessons run smoothly, safely, and effectively.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing and setting up equipment, materials, and chemicals for practical lessons
- Supporting lecturers with demonstrations and practical activities when required
- Maintaining, cleaning, and organising laboratory equipment and workspaces
- Ensuring all health and safety regulations are followed, including the safe handling and disposal of chemicals
- Monitoring stock levels and ordering laboratory supplies as needed
- Carrying out routine equipment checks and basic maintenance
- Assisting with risk assessments and ensuring compliance with safety standards
Who We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who is:
- Experienced in a science‑related environment (laboratory experience, science degree, or previous technician experience preferred)
- Highly organised and methodical, with strong attention to detail
- Confident in following health and safety procedures and maintaining a safe laboratory environment
- A proactive and reliable team player with strong communication skills
- Passionate about supporting science education and student success
- Previous experience within an educational setting is desirable but not essential
