Job Summary

The Building Services Engineering Design Apprenticeship includes a degree qualification in Building Services Engineering BEng (Hons) and a qualification leading towards Incorporated Engineer status. Responsibilities & Qualifications

Work – As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands‑on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What You’ll Do At Work

  • Actively participate in the company mentorship program as a mentee.
  • Assist the team and other Design Staff with HVAC, fire protection, electrical systems, lighting, and plumbing drafting as per mark‑ups provided by Design Staff.
  • Size building services systems to meet regulations, standards, and requirements provided by Design Staff.
  • Perform calculations for mechanical (heating, cooling, and ventilation loads) and electrical (lighting levels, circuit sizing, etc.).
  • Ensure portions of Introba’s quality assurance design requirements and drafting standards are followed.
  • Set up Revit models or AutoCAD drawing files and maintain them.
  • Coordinate mechanical and electrical services in drafting software (assistance provided by Design Staff as needed).
  • Conduct a detailed check of work prior to returning finished product to Designer.

Training

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Your training plan

The apprenticeship leads to a BEng (Hons) Building Services Engineering and a qualification towards Incorporated Engineer status. Training will be conducted on‑site in our London office.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • A Level in BBC – must include Mathematics and preferably a Science in Chemistry or Physics (UCAS points: 112).
  • T‑level (Merit or above) in Construction: Design, Surveying and Planning (UCAS points: 120).
  • BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma DDM in an Engineering subject with a minimum of merit in Mathematics and Further Mathematics (UCAS points: 128).
  • BTEC Level 3 National Diploma D*D* in an Engineering subject with a minimum of merit in Mathematics and Further Mathematics (UCAS points: 112).
  • Building Services Engineering Technician Level 3 apprenticeship DD (UCAS points: 96) with grade Pass or Distinction at EPA – contact LSBU Apprenticeships.
  • Other technical qualifications with similar UCAS points – contact LSBU Apprenticeships.
  • Applicants must hold 5 GCSEs A–C including Maths and English or equivalent (reformed GCSEs grade 4 or above).

Annual wage

  • £24,500 a year. Pay may rise after a probation period is successfully completed.
