You will receive an induction and training across a range of themes to support you in learning the skills you need to do the job well. You will be supported to apply to the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) for professional registration.
You will also be supported to attend college weekly as part of your working duties to study a qualification required for professional registration.
Upon completion you will receive support to consider next steps, including further education to Diploma or Degree level or securing a permanent position in health and social care roles.

What You’ll Be Doing
As an Emergency Care Apprentice, you’ll be part of the Health & Social Care Partnership, employed by Fife Council and working across Fife. Positions are full-time (36 hours per week) across a variety of shifts, predominantly days and evenings, with optional night shifts. All shifts include study days toward your qualification.
You may be assigned to one of two service types:
- Adult Services Resources – Accommodation with Care and Support, providing care to adults 16+ with learning disability, physical disability or mental health condition living in the community.
- Care at Home Service – supports people across Fife to live safely and independently in their own homes. Includes MECS (Mobile Emergency Care Service) that operates 24/7, responding to urgent calls in the community.
MECS staff are trained to assess situations quickly, use specialised equipment, provide reassurance, deliver hands‑on support, and, if needed, raise concerns to health or social care professionals.
You will gain real‑life experience, learn essential care skills, and join a team of experienced professionals who will mentor and support you.
Course: Advanced Certificate for Careers in Care, which incorporates SVQ 2 Social Services and Healthcare SCQF 6. Includes National Progression Certificates in Communication and Safeguarding, a National Certificate in Dementia Studies, and the Academic Study Skills framework. The course requires attendance at Fife College and is funded by the Scottish Funding Council.
