Overview

Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity is seeking a Family Support Worker to work full‑time (35 hours) on the Kentown Team. The role involves delivering high‑quality emotional, social and practical support to families where a child or young person is facing a life‑threatening or terminal illness. The position reports to the Family Support Manager and works in partnership with health, education and social care professionals. The role is based in East Lancashire.

Responsibilities

Provide needs‑led support to families, including bereavement assistance and practical help during illness and treatment. Build supportive relationships, manage child protection and information sharing, maintain accurate records, and collaborate with the team and volunteers. Contribute to fundraising activities by writing case studies and family updates. Work within established guidelines and promote diversity and inclusion.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experienced child health, education or social care professional; community experience and recognised qualifications in these fields are welcomed.
  • Warm, inclusive approach with a focus on achieving goals efficiently.
  • Practised in child protection, information sharing and data protection regulations.
  • Strong attention to accuracy, fast‑paced working environment, and confident IT skills (MS Office).
  • Effective communicator who collaborates with the team and volunteers; supports fundraising with written updates.
  • Knowledge of diversity issues affecting children, young people and families.

Additional requirements: flexible working, full current driver’s licence, enhanced DBS disclosure.
