Job Summary
As a Toll Collector, you will take an active role in managing the receipt and recording of all cash, non‑cash, credit, and debit transactions at the toll lanes. You will contribute to excellent customer experience by ensuring toll traffic moves efficiently and courteously, and support the company values of We Care, We Make it Happen, and We Work Safely and Sustainably.
Responsibilities
- Operate lane equipment and manage toll booths smoothly and professionally.
- Classify vehicles correctly and process toll payments accurately.
- Record and handle cash, prepare deposits, and ensure secure handovers.
- Communicate clearly and courteously with drivers, resolving enquiries or escalating when required.
- Follow safety and operational procedures to protect yourself and others.
- Liaise with the Bridge Control Room and follow instructions promptly.
- Report incidents, irregularities, or equipment faults as necessary.
- Maintain booth supplies and ensure all equipment is in good working order.
- Write clear reports and interpret information effectively.
- Uphold high standards of appearance and professionalism at all times.
- Welcome and assist staff, visitors, and contractors.
- Conduct regular safety and security patrols.
- Ensure compliance with regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Support emergency protocols, including evacuations and searches.
- Remain vigilant, report incidents, and help prevent disruption.
- Maintain accurate records of all activities, transactions, and shift handovers.
- Maintain excellent customer and cashier duties with precision and professionalism.
- Provide a high quality of customer service at all times, acting as an ambassador for the company.
- Clearly indicate and collect toll payments according to the Toll Schedule.
- Verify vehicle classifications, process receipts, and record accurate shift handovers.
- Protect the integrity of all cash and non‑cash payments and complete transactions in a timely manner.
- Ensure credit card procedures are understood and adhered to.
- Complete shift readings and end‑of‑shift paperwork, ensuring reconciliation of all documents and receipts.
- Maintain accurate cashier paperwork and undertake data cross‑check validations.
- Perform housekeeping and routine maintenance in toll lanes and booths.
- Undertake isolation procedures and report unusual occurrences or system failures.
- Maintain equipment and supplies in booth and assist in emergencies as required.
- Maintain required records and any required information for various sources.
- Report to Supervisor any significant issues which may potentially impact tolling operations.
- Follow instructions that ensure the safety and security of all within the tolling environment.
- Complete all required training and adhere to company policies, procedures and standards.
Qualifications
- The right to work in the UK.
- A 5‑year checkable employment history, including periods of study, unemployment, or self‑employment.
- Minimum of secondary school education.
- Strong IT skills and excellent communication skills.
- A natural ability to deliver outstanding customer service, supported by at least two years’ experience in a customer‑facing role.

- A valid driving licence or the ability to travel.

- Experience in a high‑volume customer service environment.
