We are seeking an experienced Electrical Technician to be based at our Chieveley sewage treatment works, RG20 8TY.
As a successful candidate, you will use your electrical knowledge and experience to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment, in a safe, efficient, timely and effective manner with minimum supervision, ensuring all of our sites remain operational for the benefit of our customers.
Responsibilities
- Ensure health, safety and well‑being of yourself, colleagues, contractors and visitors by complying with Health and Safety at Work regulations and Thames Water’s guidelines.
- Undertake both reactive and planned maintenance, respond to alarms, fault‑find and identify issues, fixing them or escalating as required; perform daily planned maintenance of plant and equipment and install new plant and equipment in line with current standards and regulations.
- Record work and asset information to improve business performance, identify possible future risks and recommend changes in the course of your day‑to‑day work, raising them for resolution as required.
- Provide specialist technical advice where appropriate, keeping up‑to‑date technical knowledge and coaching, training and developing staff under your supervision, including the apprenticeship programme.
- Deliver excellent customer experience and positively contribute to overall customer satisfaction by interacting with all customers (internal & external) in a timely, professional, efficient, respectful and polite manner.
Qualifications
- Time‑served apprentice with significant experience in mechanical/electrical systems or with NVQ or C&G Level 3 in electrical engineering.
- Preferred 18th Edition, but training can be given.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills, able to identify potential issues and implement solutions, or escalates if required.
- Excellent communication skills, providing technical expertise to internal and external staff and contractors.
- Resilient, able to adapt to the pressures of work and a constantly changing environment.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision, under own initiative to design and meet standards.
- Knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues relevant to the industry.
- Team player, working in many different teams, showing respect for others, providing helpful feedback and supporting the development of others.
- Full UK driving licence.

Working Conditions
- Base location: Chieveley STW, School Road, Chieveley, Newbury, RG20 8TY.
- 38 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 3:36 pm plus standby rota payments & overtime opportunities can increase earning potential by up to a further £8,000‑£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.
- All PPE, tools, plus provision of a van when on duty and on call.
