Job Overview

We are looking for a motivated housekeeper to work within the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Chemotherapy Day Unit. The role involves working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 16:00, with no nights or weekends. Occasionally you will also work at the South Bristol location as part of the unit expansion.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills, be hard‑working, logical and organised, and able to work both independently and as part of a team. Good IT skills and a willingness to undertake any required training are essential.

Main Duties

  • Work as an integral part of the ward team, responsible for the coordination of all patient facilities and services.
  • Order stock, contact suppliers, and maintain clinic rooms and trolleys well stocked.
  • Ensure a clean, safe and comfortable environment and act as a focal point for non‑clinical tasks.
  • Coordinate the delivery of catering, cleaning and ward stores.
  • Coordinate and oversee minor maintenance and repairs, together with other specified tasks to meet the needs of the ward.
  • Work closely with support services, Facilities Management and other departments as necessary.
  • Help open the department in the morning, welcoming patients and relatives to the department.
  • Maintain the correct level of cleaning standards, create and maintain essential checklists and support the nursing teams with new projects for the area.

Person Specification

Training & Education

  • GCSE A‑C English or equivalent (e.g., certificate in adult literacy Level 2).
  • GCSE A‑C Maths or equivalent (e.g., certificate in numeracy Level 1).

Knowledge & Experience

  • Experience in a health and social care setting.
  • Good working knowledge of health & safety.

Skills & Ability

  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors and other staff.
  • Ability to successfully complete required training programmes and willingness to continue learning.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and contribute to that team.
  • Able to respond well to instruction, work unsupervised and organise self.
  • Flexible and reliable.
  • Basic IT skills – word, email, keyboard, data collection, MS Office.

Requirements for Access

The Postholder will have access to vulnerable people; therefore a DBS check as required by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (with relevant Amendments) is mandatory.
