Responsibilities

  • Provide classroom cover in the absence of a lecturer, supervising students during pre‑set learning activities.
  • Manage student behaviour to maintain a constructive learning environment, using a range of strategies to address classroom and individual needs, and communicate with parents as required.
  • Work with lecturing staff to establish an appropriate, purposeful, orderly, and productive learning environment.
  • Support the curriculum team with monitoring and proactively addressing attendance issues for cover lessons, and liaise with parents/carers/guardians on any attendance concerns.
  • Assist the curriculum team with pastoral support for students within the designated faculty area.
  • Attend faculty area meetings and other wider college meetings as required.

Qualifications

  • Experience of working in an educational setting, ideally within further education, in a cover or classroom support role.
  • Ability to build positive, respectful relationships with students and colleagues, creating an inclusive environment.
  • Strong pastoral support skills, with the capacity to navigate sensitive situations with empathy, care and professionalism.
  • Level 5 teaching qualification desirable; the college will support your development and provide the opportunity to achieve a recognised teaching qualification within an agreed timeframe.

  • £29,390 to £33,602 per annum (Band 6, pro‑rata for term‑time only)
