Position
An exciting opportunity for a General Catering Assistant on the Catering Team at the Balfour. The role involves assisting with food preparation, restaurant operation, and customer service.
Responsibilities
- Provide high‑quality patient meal service: three meals per day for up to 50 patients.
- Assist chefs and serve food in the public restaurant, handling upwards of 150 meals daily.
- Deliver meals to wards and support kitchen operations.
- Work as part of a small team under the supervision of the Supervisor Chef / Retail & Restaurant Supervisor and the Catering Team Lead.
Qualifications
- Elementary food hygiene certificate, or willingness to undertake training to obtain the qualification (training provided by NHS Orkney and partners).
Location & Working Pattern
Based at The Balfour. The position is part‑time, 23 hours per week, and permanent.
Condition of employment: candidates must live and remain a resident of the UK.

Salary: Band 2, with a Distant Islands Allowance of £1,719 pro rata per annum if residing on Orkney.
