Department: Quality, Tech and Compliance

Reporting to: Technical Manager

We are looking for a Junior Technologist to join us! You will be responsible for the quality and compliance of selected ranges we produce under the JoJo brand. You will own key departments and suppliers and will cover development from initial research to production delivery and support on customer queries and complaints. You will ensure the technical department delivers to schedule and to the standard required. Ranges covered will include childrenswear; baby & children’s nursery products and toys; and women’s and maternity wear as required for business needs.

This position is offered as a fixed-term contract until 27/05/2027.

A peek into your daily adventures:

  • Understand the goals of our Technical Strategy and consider implementation in their own areas
  • Ensure technical workbooks and associated paperwork is filed and trackers are updated inline with agreed system
  • Ensure accuracy of specification sheets and grading at issuing, with aim to drive a right first-time fitting approach.
  • With support, conduct and document appropriate product risk assessments inline with agreed standards, ensuring supplier is clear on product safety requirements.
  • With support, ensure required warnings and information are in place on labelling & packaging to ensure compliance with relevant legislative requirements.

Product Development and Critical Path

  • Conduct fit sessions with support as required ensuring product is properly assessed for excellence of make and fit, clear comments are recorded, and the final product sealed meets the specification.
  • Attend team production meetings to ensure Critical Path is on track for own product areas and those covered by more junior techs. Alert Technical Manager on any risks to delivery.
  • Assess failed test reports on our testing platform, determine commercial approval or recommend further action required.
  • Understand risks related to hazardous chemical policies with support and arrange testing as appropriate.
  • Ensure suppliers are clear on and working inline with Technical Handbooks and Technical Policies.

Product Knowledge

  • Demonstrate a core understanding of different fabrics, materials types and trims, and testing procedures. Understand application on final product, suitability for final product and user. Make recommendations at issuing and during product development.
  • Maintain fabric library, ensure consistency across suppliers.
  • Arrange block, grading and benchmark reviews on own areas to ensure excellence of fit across the sizes inline with our customer and brand. Make suggestions for updates to be approved by Technical Manager, cascading to suppliers and other techs as appropriate.
  • Monitor changes to standards and regulations on own products. Alert Technical Manager to any changes that may impact or affect JoJo product groups.

Supplier and Factory Management

  • Support effective onboarding of a new supplier; ensure the agreed processes are followed and that the supplier is clear on expectations and meets the minimum requirements of our technical standards. All trackers are up to date.
  • All new factories to be approved by Technical Manager prior to PO’s being placed.
  • With support assess our factories virtually to review technical capabilities and their suitability to JoJo requirements. Travel to factories in person where opportunities are available.
  • Build good working relationship with key suppliers through general contact, product specific communication, and has good working knowledge of their quality management processes and capabilities.

Team success looks like:

  • Work effectively with E&S to ensure effective cross over of goals, targets and communication.
  • Ensure any green claims or claims on sustainability can be traced and evidenced.
  • Support Sustainability team as appropriate and required on supplier queries.
  • Support Ethical team as appropriate and required on supplier queries, working collaboratively on agreed ways of working for onboarding and maintenance.
  • Travel as required to the DC to check stock.
  • Support senior members of the team, be proactive in approach and look for opportunities to improve product and processes.
