The Senior Social Work Assistant works within the Adult Inpatient Division, Bed Management & Adult Inpatient Social Work Team, collaborating closely with Adult Acute, PICU and Rehabilitation wards to facilitate safe admission and discharge to and from inpatient settings. The role is fast‑paced, rewarding, and offers experience across treatment pathways, service user support, and collaboration with support services across Lincolnshire.
Main duties of the job
- Work with Registered Social Care Professionals to deliver a range of mental health and social care interventions to users experiencing mental ill‑health.
- Provide direct social care support, including short‑term intervention, rapid re‑ablement and longer‑term care under the direction of a qualified social worker where applicable.
- Deliver direct physical, social and psychological care under supervision, following individualised support plans and reporting on users’ conditions to qualified staff to enable achievement of outcomes.
- Communicate factual information with service users, using reassurance, tact and empathy, especially when barriers to understanding exist.
- Contribute to the assessment and analysis of clinical and non‑clinical situations, making routine judgments to resolve straightforward problems.

Person specification
Qualifications
- Cavendish Care Certificate or willingness to work towards it, supported by LPFT
- NVQ 3 in Care or equivalent
- NVQ 3 in Promoting Independence or equivalent, or working towards achievement
- Level 4 qualification in health and social care plus experience within a health and social care setting to diploma level
- Training in mental health awareness or any other relevant training
- NVQ 2 in Care or equivalent
Experience
- Previous relevant experience of working with people with mental health problems as a nursing assistant, grade or equivalent, within a health and social care setting
- Knowledge of risk assessment principles
- Experience providing support for people in the community
- Experience working with people with mental health needs
Skills
- Effective communication with service users, team members and external agencies
- Patient and empathic approach, clear and accurate clinical note‑keeping
- Quick decision‑making skills – calm approach and ability to liaise and consult with colleagues when required
- Planning and organising daily tasks, ensuring whereabouts are known
