Overview
The Heights Academy opened in September 2023 in a brand-new build and offers a unique opportunity to be part of the next stage of growth and development. Initially there are pupils in Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3, and over time the school will expand to cater for 116 pupils across Key Stage 2, 3 and 4. All pupils have an EHCP with a diagnosis of autism.
Responsibilities
- Provide support to pupils across the school, adhering to safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Supervise groups and occasionally whole classes for a session.
- Provide a high standard of nurturing and education through quality interactions, developing strong authentic relationships with all children, including one‑to‑one support when required.
- Be proactive, flexible and a reliable team player, offering support to colleagues when required.
- Build and maintain strong relationships to enable all children to flourish, focusing on community needs.
- Help children to make progress by working closely with an experienced team and external professionals, regularly giving feedback to class teachers, SLT and colleagues regarding progress and wellbeing.
- Support pupils with a range of behavioural needs using effective strategies.
- Ensure children receive an appropriate standard of care and support.
Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualifications or experience is desirable.
- Proof of right to work in the UK.
- References from at least the last two employers.
- Medical clearance where required.
- Enhanced DBS disclosure.

Important Information
All applicants will be subject to enhanced DBS, Prohibition check, childcare disqualification, qualifications, medical fitness, identity, right to work checks and two references. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the 2015 amendments. The post is covered by Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) – fluency in spoken English is essential.
