About your role

WSP’s Transport & Mobility team is growing, and we are now looking for a Transport Modeller or Assistant Transport Modeller to join our team. The role can be based in Birmingham, Manchester, Bristol, Leeds, London, Cambridge, Cardiff, Exeter, Basingstoke or Guildford, with a mix of in-office and home working.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll work across a diverse portfolio of public and private sector projects, applying advanced transport modelling techniques to support strategic decision‑making.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and applying transport models, including model building, calibration, validation and forecasting
  • Supporting or leading projects encompassing transport strategies, business cases and demand forecasting
  • Analysing and interpreting complex datasets to produce meaningful insights and recommendations
  • Preparing technical reports, presentations and client deliverables
  • Scoping modelling requirements and defining appropriate methodologies
  • Collaborating with multi‑disciplinary teams across planning, engineering and environmental services
  • Supporting continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the transport modelling community
  • Engaging with clients and stakeholders to explain modelling outputs in a clear, accessible way

Qualifications

We’d love to hear from you if you have a passion for transport modelling and a strong analytical mindset. Ideally, you will bring:

  • Some experience in developing transport models, including calibration, validation and testing
  • Experience in at least one modelling package such as VISUM, SATURN, EMME or similar
  • Analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Understanding of UK transport policy, appraisal and transport modelling guidance, e.g. the Department for Transport (DfT) Transport Analysis Guidance (TAG)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in Python or other programming languages such as R, Java or C++
  • Experience in GIS
  • The ability to communicate technical outputs to non‑technical audiences
  • A collaborative approach with the confidence to work both independently and as part of a team
