As a result of continued growth, HealthHero is seeking to recruit two Urgent Care Assistants to undertake driving, receptionist and base duties on a part‑time, permanent basis across Wiltshire, Swindon and Bath and North East Somerset.
About the role
As an Urgent Care Assistant you will undertake a dual role of driving and reception to support the efficient operation of Integrated Urgent Care services across the South West locality. The role involves driving clinicians to patients’ homes and performing basic vehicle checks, as well as acting as the first point of contact for patients or carers at our designated Treatment Centres.
We operate a 24/7, 365 days a year service on a rolling 4‑week rota pattern to be agreed following a successful interview. The role will involve non‑clinical support to clinicians and patients who use NHS 111 and GP Out of Hours services.
A degree of flexibility will be required, and there may be occasional occasions to work outside contracted hours.
Shift patterns
- Monday – Friday 18:15/18:30 – 23:00 (Evenings)
- Monday – Friday 23:00 – 08:00 (Overnights)
- Saturday – Monday 08:00 – 08:00 (Encompassing AM/PM/Evening or Overnight shifts)
*Please note that overnight working will be required as part of this role and will make up part of the required working rota*
Your key duties
Driving
- Drive clinicians to patients’ homes safely and legally, adhering to current driving regulations.
- Perform basic vehicle checks at the beginning and end of shifts to ensure roadworthiness and full equipment.
- Record accurately all medications and consumables used while on shift.
Base
- Serve as the first point of contact for patients or carers/relatives in our Treatment Centres.
- Support clinicians while on shift.
- Communicate with patients in person and via telephone (comfort & welfare checks).
- Keep the Treatment Centre clean and tidy.
Medication and Stock Management
- Use computer systems to accurately maintain stock levels of medication and consumables.
- Replenish car stock at the end of your shift.
- Understand stock rotation and expiry dates on weekly delivery of medications and consumables.
Full training will be provided. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake duties ranging from reception desk work, sitting in a car for long periods, carrying weighted emergency equipment and, if necessary, performing CPR. A driver’s medical test will be required if successful at interview.

*Please note a full UK Driving Licence (with no more than 6 registered penalty points) is essential for this role, and you should possess good driving experience.*
