Summary

We are looking for an Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Technician to join our Shift team in Cramlington, on an attractive 4 on 6 off shift pattern. Within this role, you will be responsible for executing on‑site maintenance tasks, including E&I repairs, modifications, plant upgrades, installations and commissioning, ensuring all equipment complies with statutory and regulatory requirements.

This role operates on a 12‑hour shift pattern, consisting of 2 days, 2 nights and 6 off.

Your responsibilities

  • Adhere to the Sterling lockout/tagout (LOTO) and permit‑to‑work procedures
  • Carry out electrical and instrument repairs, modifications, plant upgrades, installation, and commissioning.
  • Calibrate and function test instrumented loops including valves, level, temperature, flow & pressure instruments.
  • Conduct hazardous area inspections and repairs ensuring all hazardous area equipment complies with statutory requirements and appropriate British Standards are maintained.
  • Problem‑solve and perform diagnostic checks on electrical and instrument systems, recommending changes and improvements to the area E&I assistant engineer.
  • Read and interpret instrument loop and schematic drawings.
  • Install medium and low voltage systems and general electrical systems.

Requirements for the role

  • Relevant qualifications in one of the core disciplines are essential.
  • A COMPex certificate is desirable, but not essential as training will be provided.
  • Previous experience within the chemical industry is desirable, but not essential.
  • Capable of prioritising tasks and managing time effectively.
  • Self‑motivated with a can‑do attitude.
  • Must be adept at problem‑solving methodically and possess good fault‑finding skills.
  • Should be able to demonstrate the ability to respond appropriately to situations with the necessary level of urgency.
  • General understanding of 4‑20 mA & 3‑15 PSI instrument control.
  • Preferred to have relevant prior experience in identifying and eliminating root causes.
