About the role:

Justteachers is seeking a compassionate and resilient Specialist Support Worker to join a dedicated SEND Hub within a mainstream school in the Wakefield area. This long‑term position is to start as soon as possible, with shortlisting currently taking place.

This nurturing Hub supports KS2 pupils without formal diagnoses who are presenting with needs associated with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH). These learners benefit from tailored interventions, emotional regulation strategies, and consistent, relationship‑centred support to help them access learning and thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing daily 1:1 and small‑group support for KS2 pupils displaying SEMH‑related behaviours
  • Implementing personalised support strategies, emotional regulation techniques, and structured routines
  • Building positive, trusting relationships to help pupils feel safe, understood, and ready to learn
  • Supporting learning activities under the direction of the class teacher or Hub lead
  • Using trauma‑informed approaches, restorative practice, and de‑escalation techniques
  • Assisting pupils with transitions, coping strategies, and reintegration into the classroom
  • Supporting behaviour recording, pastoral communication, and safeguarding procedures

Pre‑requisites:

  • Experience working with children displaying SEMH behaviours, whether diagnosed or emerging
  • Strong behaviour management and de‑escalation skills
  • A calm, patient, and emotionally resilient approach
  • Understanding of trauma‑informed practice and relational support
  • Experience in a school, SEND, alternative provision, or youth support setting
  • Relevant qualifications in education, youth work, support work, or equivalent experience
  • Two or more professional references from an educational or care setting
