History Teacher – Secondary School

Barking, East LondonPay to ScaleStart Date: September 2026 (or sooner if available)Contract: Full-time, Permanent

Love History? Love bringing the past to life? This one’s for you

We’re working with a forward-thinking secondary school in Newham looking for a History Teacher who can turn big moments, bold stories, and complex ideas into lessons that actually stick.

This isn’t a “copy from the board” kind of place. It’s a school where debate is encouraged, curiosity is welcomed, and students are challenged to think beyond the textbook.

Whether you’re an ECT finding your feet or an experienced teacher ready for a fresh start, you’ll be supported, trusted, and genuinely valued here.

What you’ll be walking into:

  • A collaborative Humanities department that shares ideas and resources (no late-night panic planning)
  • Supportive SLT who understand the realities of the classroom
  • Clear behaviour systems, so you can focus on teaching, not firefighting
  • A diverse, engaged student community with plenty to say
  • Ongoing CPD and progression opportunities if you’re looking to grow

Your role:

  • Teach History across KS3 and KS4 (KS5 available if that’s your thing)
  • Deliver engaging lessons that spark discussion and critical thinking
  • Help students connect the past to the world they’re living in now
  • Track progress and support pupils to reach their potential

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Holds UK QTS (or is on track to achieve it)
  • Can bring History to life, whether it’s through storytelling, debate, or creative teaching
  • Brings a calm, confident presence into the classroom
  • Wants to be part of a team, not just a timetable

Why work with Protocol Education?

  • Weekly pay through PAYE, no umbrella faff
  • Free access to our CPD Academy, including Thrive training
  • A dedicated consultant who actually listens
  • Roles that match your teaching style, not just your CV

A quick one… are you Thrive trained?

If not, no stress. We offer free Thrive training, which helps with behaviour, emotional support, and building strong classroom relationships, something schools really value.

Ready to take the next step?

If you’re looking for a History role where you can teach well, feel supported, and actually enjoy your day, this could be the one.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.

This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
