Work Based Learning Practitioner – Hospitality and Catering

Job Summary

Exceeding expectations through education, innovation and inspiration, this role provides a full-time, permanent position at our Deeside campus, starting 1st September 2026. Salary is £33,912 – £38,218. The practitioner will assess learners against the full range of hospitality & catering qualifications, conduct training needs analyses, enrol learners, offer coaching and mentoring, deliver knowledge sessions and monitor progress.

Responsibilities

  • Assess learners against hospitality & catering qualifications
  • Conduct training needs analysis and enrol learners on appropriate courses
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and learning opportunities
  • Deliver underpinning knowledge sessions (1‑1 or workshops, max group size 8)
  • Monitor learners’ progress, give constructive feedback and guide e‑portfolio development
  • Assess learner portfolios and present completed portfolios for internal quality assurance

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified at a minimum level 3 or above in hospitality & catering
  • Possess or be willing to work towards an assessor qualification (TAQA)
  • Possess or be willing to work towards a quality assurance qualification (currently 401 TAQA unit)
  • Level 2 English/Welsh and maths qualifications (or equivalent) at Grade 4 (C) or above
  • Possess or be willing to work towards a digital literacy level 2 qualification
  • Experience liaising and partnering with external managers in the industry
  • Able to plan and manage own workload, ensuring deadlines are met
  • Demonstrated personal resilience in a range of difficult situations
  • Committed to maintaining and developing quality standards within education

Desirable

Welsh skills are desirable to support our bilingual provision and the college’s commitment to the Welsh language and culture. We encourage applications in Welsh.

Legal and Approval

This role is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order and requires an Enhanced DBS with Barred List check. Applicants must disclose all cautions and convictions, including spent ones. The role may also require registration with the Education Workforce Council.
