Job Description:

We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Year 1 Teacher to join a well-established KS1 team within a welcoming Gateshead primary school.

You will take responsibility for a class of 24 pupils with a broad range of abilities. Within the class, 6 pupils are currently working below age-related expectations in phonics and receive daily targeted intervention, supported by a full-time Level 2 Teaching Assistant. The class has established routines and responds well to structured teaching approaches.

The school places a strong emphasis on early reading, with a consistent whole-school phonics scheme (Little Wandle) embedded across EYFS and KS1. You will be expected to deliver high-quality daily phonics sessions and adapt teaching to ensure all pupils make sustained progress.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons across the KS1 curriculum
  • Use assessment effectively to inform planning and next steps
  • Support pupils in developing early reading, writing, and numeracy skills
  • Work collaboratively with the KS1 lead and wider team
  • Maintain a positive, well-managed classroom environment

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
