Food Technology Teacher (Hospitality & Catering)

Location: Secondary School in Chigwell, Essex (well‑connected via Central Line, on‑site parking available)

Contract: Full time, initially on a temporary basis through Prospero Teaching with transition to a permanent role for the right candidate

Start Date: As soon as possible

You will be joining a large, successful and heavily oversubscribed mixed 11‑18 secondary school in the Chigwell area. The school is located on a spacious single site surrounded by green areas, with excellent transport links into London.

The Role

  • Teach Hospitality & Catering (and/or Food Technology) across Key Stages 3‑5 to students aged 11‑18.
  • Plan and deliver dynamic, engaging lessons that inspire students, develop strong skills in catering, food prep, service and evaluation.
  • Manage the practical environment safely and effectively (including health & safety, hygiene, specialist equipment).
  • Assess student work, provide timely feedback, and support students to achieve strong outcomes.
  • Contribute to enrichment opportunities and the wider opportunity curriculum that the school values.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain high standards of teaching and learning.

Person Specification

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Strong secondary teaching experience in Food Technology / Hospitality & Catering (if not QTS, then demonstrated proven experience in secondary teaching with excellent results).
  • Excellent subject knowledge of Hospitality & Catering, Food Technology, practical cookery, service and evaluation.
  • A passion for creating motivational, inclusive lessons that engage and challenge students of differing abilities.
  • Experience managing practical workshops and catering environments with a clear focus on health & safety and hygiene.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, a collaborative mindset and the ability to contribute positively to department and school life.
