A secondary school in Waltham Forest is seeking a Science Academic Mentor to start in September 2026. This is an ideal opportunity for a high-achieving graduate looking to gain hands‑on experience in education before moving into teacher training or a longer-term school‑based career.

The school has placed a strong focus on improving outcomes in Science across KS3 and KS4, with a curriculum built around clear sequencing, practical understanding and frequent low‑stakes assessment to strengthen long-term retention. Biology, Chemistry and Physics are all supported through structured intervention programmes, helping students close gaps in knowledge and improve exam performance.

You will be responsible for:

  • Delivering 1:1 and small‑group Science intervention sessions
  • Supporting KS3 and KS4 students across Biology, Chemistry and Physics
  • Reinforcing key scientific knowledge and exam technique
  • Monitoring progress and feeding back to teaching staff
  • Supporting engagement and motivation in Science lessons

The school offers:

  • A structured and supportive Science department
  • Regular CPD focused on behaviour, pedagogy and intervention
  • Experience working alongside experienced Science teachers
  • Strong systems for tracking and improving pupil progress
  • Clear progression routes into teacher training

The successful candidate will hold a strong Science‑related degree and have previous child‑centred experience such as tutoring, mentoring or working with young people. Strong communication skills, resilience and a genuine interest in education are essential.
