Role Overview

The Insurance Assistant Apprenticeship provides hands-on experience across key insurance functions, including claims handling, underwriting, and broking. Responsibilities

  • Support the organisation’s strategic vision, commercial aims, and objectives
  • Assist in generating and managing insurance products and services
  • Help attract new clients and retain existing clients through renewals
  • Manage multiple deadlines and prioritise workloads to meet targets

Analysis & Decision Making

  • Gather, analyse, and interpret data relevant to insurance products and services
  • Identify issues and take appropriate action, including recommendations, decisions, or referrals

Quality Assurance

  • Ensure insurance quality assurance processes are completed accurately to support transactions, decisions, and recommendations

Communication

  • Liaise with internal teams, specialists, and external stakeholders
  • Support the resolution of insurance matters, including coverage decisions and claim payments

IT Systems

  • Create and maintain accurate insurance records within organisational IT systems

Data Protection

  • Handle personal, confidential, and sensitive information (personal, commercial, and financial)
  • Adhere strictly to data protection legislation and internal policies

Regulatory Compliance

  • Follow regulatory requirements impacting insurance activity
  • Work in line with company procedures, compliance standards, and codes of conduct

Claims Handling / Loss Adjuster Duties

Fraud Prevention

  • Act as a first line of defence against fraud
  • Identify potentially fraudulent claims and escalate appropriately
  • Liaise with internal teams and external bodies such as Action Fraud, the police, and other financial services organisations

Claims Processing

  • Manage insurance claims from initiation to settlement
  • Gather and assess all relevant evidence
  • Escalate decisions where required
  • Ensure approved claims are paid accurately and promptly

Assistant Underwriter Duties

Risk Assessment

  • Assess and evaluate the level of risk associated with client insurance requests
  • Contribute to decisions on policy acceptance, decline, and premium pricing

Financial Limits

  • Operate within approved underwriting authority
  • Escalate matters beyond delegated financial limits

Junior Broker Duties

Client Representation

  • Act on behalf of clients in negotiations with insurers
  • Secure effective insurance outcomes aligned with client needs

Products & Services

  • Identify and recommend appropriate insurance products from across the market
  • Support sales performance and contribute to commission targets

Remuneration and Working Hours

  • 4 working days per week plus 1 dedicated study/learning day
  • Working hours: 9:00am – 5:00pm (8 hours per day, including a 1-hour lunch break)
  • Basic annual salary: £17,500
  • 25 days annual leave
  • Quarterly team social events (previous activities include Go Karting, Flight Club, Go Ape, and more)
