About the Role
Working with pupils who require consistent support with behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement in school life. Many students respond well to structured routines, positive role models and activity‑based learning, making this role ideal for those from a sports background.
Support pupils across the school day, including within the classroom and through practical or movement‑based sessions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small‑group behaviour support
- Build strong, consistent relationships with pupils who need structure and guidance
- Use coaching‑style approaches to motivate and engage students
- Support pupils to manage behaviour, regulate emotions and stay on track
- Assist pupils in accessing lessons and building focus
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams
- Promote discipline, respect, teamwork and resilience
- Act as a positive role model throughout the school environment
Who This Role Suits
This role is particularly suited to candidates with backgrounds in:
- Sports coaching, PE or fitness instruction
- Behaviour mentoring or SEMH support
- Youth work, outreach or community roles
- Residential support or care work
- Team leadership or group facilitation
We also welcome graduates in areas such as:
- Sports Science / PE
- Psychology
- Criminology
- Education
Experience working with young people is essential – school experience is beneficial but not required.
Essential Skills & Qualities
- Confident, calm and consistent approach to behaviour
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Ability to build rapport and establish clear boundaries
- Resilience and adaptability
- Positive, proactive mindset
- Experience working with young people in any capacity
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)
Desirable (Not Essential)
- Experience supporting SEMH or additional needs
- Knowledge of behaviour management strategies
- Team Teach or de‑escalation training
- Coaching qualifications or relevant certifications
