Experienced SEN Teaching Assistant – Special Educational Needs School in Tonbridge

Full‑time position attracting an outline wage of £93 per day. Hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and the role is initially ad‑hoc with potential to become long‑term.

The Role

  • Support pupils on a 1:1 or small‑group basis with severe learning difficulties (SLD), profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), complex learning difficulties, autism spectrum condition (ASC), and sensory impairments.
  • Assist with personalised learning programmes tailored to each pupil’s Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), focusing on communication, independence and life skills.
  • Provide personal care where required, ensuring dignity and respect at all times.
  • Use a calm, patient, and nurturing approach to support pupils who may have communication difficulties or sensory needs.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and support staff to create an inclusive and engaging learning environment.
  • Act as a positive role model who genuinely wants to make a difference.
  • Take initiative in the classroom and build meaningful, trusting relationships with pupils and their families.

Requirements

  • Prior experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Care Support Worker, or within a specialist SEN setting.
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SLD, PMLD, autism or complex needs is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated patience, emotional resilience, adaptability and a proactive attitude.
  • Willingness to assist with personal care and medical needs where necessary.
  • Right to work in the UK and willingness to obtain an enhanced DBS (child‑only) via the update service or to obtain a new DBS, with reimbursement after 20 days of work.
  • If you have been outside the UK for six months or more in the last five years, you must obtain an overseas police check.
