Overview
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Health Care Assistant to join the Macular service within St Paul’s at the Royal Liverpool Hospital on a part-time basis.
The successful candidate will have prior experience in a hospital ophthalmology unit and experience with Macular patients undergoing intravitreal injections. The role involves general health care duties and supporting the specialist nurse practitioners and medical staff within the macular service.
Responsibilities
- Provide patient care under supervision of a registered nurse, supporting the Macular Service Department team to deliver high standards of care for patients and their families/carers.
- Assist with a range of tasks and duties as delegated by a registered nurse.
- Carry out clinical duties such as chaperoning and escorting patients within the hospital and to other hospitals for investigations as required.
- Assist with preparation and maintenance of environments for clinical treatments and investigations.
- Obtain specimens from patients for testing where appropriate.
- Support with personal hygiene, toileting needs, privacy and dignity.
- Assist with movement and handling in line with safe practice guidelines and patient care plans.
- Record general clinical observations (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiration rate, oxygen saturation) and report any untoward findings to registered nursing staff.
- Undertake blood glucose monitoring, venepuncture and/or cannulation under the direction of the registered nurse where indicated.
- Prepare patients for treatments, investigations or procedures and provide suitable information and reassurance as appropriate.
Qualifications
- Experience within a hospital Ophthalmology unit and familiarity with Macular patients undergoing intravitreal injections.
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work with a variety of IT systems.
