Teaching Assistant

Organization: Saffron Valley Collegiate – Croydon’s Secondary Pupil Referral Unit

Salary: Sc3 Spine point 5 – 6: £29,436 – £29,856 FTE (actual salary £25,399 – £25,762)

Hours: Term‑time plus INSET days, Full time – 36 hours per week.

Location: KS4 North provision; staff may be deployed across the collegiate.

Role Overview

The TA supports classroom teams and contributes to the educational and personal development of pupils in a secondary pupil referral unit. The successful candidate will manage priorities effectively, act independently when necessary, and maintain a high standard of professional conduct. Strong communication skills, proficiency in ICT, and a flexible, “can‑do” approach are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers in delivering curriculum and supporting pupils’ learning.
  • Manage classroom priorities and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with staff across the collegiate to meet pupil needs.
  • Provide support to vulnerable pupils and contribute to safeguarding and welfare practices.

Qualifications & Competencies

  • Experience or training in teaching support or a related role.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in ICT and ability to use technology to support learning.
  • Commitment to professional development and a flexible, collaborative working style.
